Artist - Barbara Emery
I am very influenced by the natural world and my subject matter is often of intimate views of the Oxfordshire landscape, and flowers. I try to achieve the dynamism, strength of colour and unrestrained movement I perceive in nature.
My style is highly individual and best described as “bold and impressionistic, sometimes tending toward the abstract.”
My paintings develop organically in layers and are highly textural. I apply the paint in thrown lines that, although directed and controlled, impart an unrestrained element that adds to the movement and energy of my work. For me the process is as important as the subject. I delight in the obvious evidence of every line, squiggle and blob of paint and want the onlooker to be aware of these also.
I aim to both capture the essence of my subjects and remain true to the aesthetic values through careful observation. I hope my paintings can appeal to those who like representational art, and also to those who enjoy a more abstract approach.
